Hey everyone!

Sorry I haven’t written in a while, but I’m really going to try and keep up more often than before….I have several recipes I can’t wait to share with all of you!

So, I got back to school on February 5, after being in Texas for about a month and a half.  It was SO nice to be home, and to be immersed in the beautiful 70 degree climates 🙂  However, 3 days before I left, it started getting REALLY COLD!  It even snowed 2 inches….how crazy!  I’ve been practicing my butt off for these graduate school auditions, and my first one is on February 16.  As much as I’m frightened to play at these places, I’m so excited to visit all of these wonderful cities!  I’m auditioning at San Francisco Conservatory (obviously in San Francisco, CA), Rice University (in Houston, TX), and New England Conservatory (Boston, MA).  The great thing is that all of my auditions are in the morning, so I get to explore each city the entire day!!  🙂

I also started school on Monday, and I’m taking 17 credits….lots and lots of work ahead of me.  But I really love all of my classes this year, so it should be a good time.  In addition to that, I’m gonna be in a 10-piece chamber music ensemble, preparing a senior recital, recording an album with the Belles, and OH YEAH, I’M GRADUATING.  There are just so many things to do….but for now, I’m trying to focus on Grad School auditions….

Seriously, the one thing that is getting me through it is baking/cooking.  Today, I went grocery shopping for my homemade bolognese sauce, and I saw a package of 9 apples….and I just had to make apple crisp!  My recipe of apple crisp has been in my family for generations, and it’s SO GOOD, full of butter and brown sugar 🙂  Hope y’all enjoy—it’s a great treat for wintery nights!

9 peeled and sliced apples
1/2 cup sugar
1 stick butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup flour
1/2 cup quick cooking rolled oats

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  Cut apples into slices, making sure there is no skin on the apples, and place in a large pan.  Add sugar to the apples and mix with your hands.  Cream butter and brown sugar, and add flour and oats.  Sprinkle on top of sugary apples, and bake for 45 minutes.  Serve warm, with vanilla ice cream.

Enjoy, and stay warm!

xoxo, Sara
